What does a fireplace installation cost in Cape Town?
No two fireplace installations cost the same, because the unit is only part of the job. The flue, the chimney, the surround and the access to the room usually decide the final figure. Here is how we build a quote so you know what you are paying for.
The five things that move the price
When we quote, we price each of these separately so you can see where the money goes and adjust the spec if you need to.
- The unit itself: freestanding, insert or built-in, and the brand and size
- Flue length and route: a straight run through a pitched roof is cheapest; offsets and flat roofs add parts and labour
- Chimney work: relining an existing chimney versus building a new breast
- Gas versus wood: gas adds the line, regulator, pressure test and compliance certificate
- Finishing: plaster, stone cladding, mantels, hearths and making good after core drilling
Why the cheapest quote often costs more
The most common repair callouts we see are undersized flues that smoke back into the room, missing heat shields that scorch the wall, and gas work without a certificate that fails on a property sale or insurance claim.
A compliant installation includes correct clearances, insulated flue sections where required, a non-combustible hearth and paperwork you can hand to your insurer.
How to get an accurate quote
We do a free site visit anywhere in the greater Cape Town area. We measure the room, check the roof and chimney access, discuss fuel and finish, then send a written quote itemising the unit, flue, builders work and certificate.
If the budget is tight, we will tell you where to save: a freestanding unit instead of a built-in, a simpler surround, or reusing the existing chimney.
